MLK Dream Weekend
Gaming, more than almost any other industry, is an ever-evolving, ever-changing organism. Because gaming has such a wide impact across all demographics, OG Evo has a particularly strong commitment to maintaining the diversity in esports and the culture/community of the competitive gaming industry. This Martin Luther King Junior weekend, we were presented with the unique opportunity to do so by attending the 40 Acre Conference for MLK Dream Weekend. This conference in Houston, Texas was honored as the largest minority financial equity conference in the world. The event itself was a wonderful mix of top minority entrepreneurs, corporations, government officials, celebrities, and influencers speaking on ways to support the black community and decrease the wealth gap by combining cash flow, community, and culture.
There were tons of great topics discussed, but a lot of them centered around how to capitalize on changing industries and how to best combine culture and business. From the fashion shows, impromptu hip-hop break dancing competition, and networking panels, the OG Evo team learned how to introduce important aspects of community into esports! The team in turn brought Super Smash Bros down and explained how the growth of gaming in communities and educational pieces can help excel any program. Young and old alike enjoyed playing against each other with laughter and knuckle-bumps, capturing the spirit of the event in its purest form.
