Rec the Halls
The weekend before Christmas is always sure to be a busy one, for professionals and high schoolers alike. This year, while Santa was loading his sleigh, OG Evo Media put aside time in their busy shopping schedules to help Altus Esports League, Oklahoma Scholastic Esports, & Click Gaming bring the very first high school Call of Duty championship to Oklahoma.
‘Twas the morning of COD day, and Altus High School’s gym was being prepared for the “Rec The Halls” event, the likes of which had never been seen before in the state. Dozens of Xbox’s populated the room, and spectators littered the area to watch the first Oklahoma championship of its kind. Starting at 10:00 am on December 18th, 11 of the top Oklahoma varsity Call of Duty teams competed for the title of Oklahoma Scholastic Esports State Champion. Along with the title came a trophy for the school trophy case; a certified Christmas miracle for whichever team went home with a dub. After hours of stiff competition, Blair High School came out on top, beating Altus, the hosting team, by a solid margin in an intense final round. OG Evo Media’s own Johnny Weaver presented the trophy to the winning team, sending all schools involved into the new year with a championship under their belt, and visions of Esports tournaments dancing in their heads.
